Details

Bontrager's RL Road Shoes deliver features of much more expensive shoes without the premium price tag. They boast Bontrager's stiff and supportive Silver Series carbon soles for premium pedaling power and customizable eSoles that cradle you in comfort. Meanwhile, Bontrager's breathable InForm uppers feel great and feature tongues that extend to the toes for an awesome fit. And, you'll love the secure ratcheting buckles, Velcro strap closures and custom heel cups, too.

In order to mount your pedals' cleats to your shoes, they must have matching bolt patterns. There are 3 configurations (diagram) used on cycling shoes, SPD-R, Look/SPD-SL and SPD. Road shoes feature one, two or even all three of these. Mountain-bike shoes usually use the SPD pattern. If you have any questions about cleat compatibility, please contact us. We're here to help!

Love these

Pros

  • Comfortable Tongue
  • Great Buckle System
  • Stiff Sole
  • Good Fit

Cons

    Best Uses

    • Commuter shoes
    • Everyday riding
    • Long-distance riding

    Comments:

I have two pairs of these since I like these so much, and most bike shoe companies seem to be moving away from buckle systems like this in favor of BOA systems. I find these traditional buckles much more comfortable than the BOAs, which put pressure in the wrong places and dig in. I also like the thin tongue on these shoes, that is very comfortable. Good stiff sole provides lots of power.

Low quality materials and manufacture. Buckles faulty and straps tear. Cheap.

    Cons

    Comments:

I loved them from the first time I tried them on and enjoyed riding with them. Like any road shoes with stiff soles, you need to be careful when walking on smooth surfaces. However, for the price Bontrager should've made them adaptable for SPD cleats. There are 'similar' lower-end models with both options to use Look/SPD-SL or SPD cleats that cost less. Overall, great shoes that I'm sure will last me a long time.

This shoe is very well built for the money. Excellent carbon sole, stylish leather upper, insert and bed is one of the best I have seen.
