Roof Racks
Rook racks are a popular method for carrying bikes are they can be installed and left on the vehicle indefinitely. They offer a secure and stable location for storage of your bikes, but are generally the most expensive rack system.
Hitch Racks
If your vehicle is equipped with a tow hitch, a hitch rack offers a great solution that is easy to load, stable, and secure, without spending a ton. Hitch racks can haul up to five bikes and are available with a number of features including locks.
Trunk Racks
Trunk racks are available to fit most vehicles and generally can haul up to three bikes. They are the least expensive type of rack but offer little in the way of security and must be installed properly to ensure stability of the bikes.
Cargo & Luggage
Yakima and Thule both offer luggage boxes and bags which mount on the roof of the vehicle to carry gear. Skis and golf clubs are popular candidates for storage in cargo bags and boxes.
Pickup Racks
Several companies offer racks and hardware that allow stable transport of bikes in the bed of a pickup. When deciding which is best setup for you, consider whether you are comfortable drilling and mounting hardware in your bed or whether you’d rather have a removable system.
Spare Tire Racks
Thule and Yakima offer racks for up to two bikes that bolt into your spare tire rack utilizing the existing bolt pattern. There are stable, simple, and relatively affordable.
